Battle Mountain Recreation

Battle Mountain offers a wide variety of outdoor activities. For more information on hunting, fishing, boating, and camping in the area please visit the Nevada Department of Wildlife (http://ndow.org/), The Nevada Division of the Bureau of Land Management (http://www.nv.blm.gov/), or the Nevada Division of State Parks (http://parks.nv.gov/).

There are numerous recreation activities for children and adolescents. In addition to the outdoor recreation activities listed on this page, children can choose from successful athletic and extracurricular programs through the school district as well as community athletics (Little League, Babe Ruth, AYSO, Football, Junior Golf, Swimming, MotoCross, Skateboarding, and others) and programs such as 4-H and Scouts.

Hunting and Fishing
Big game such as mule deer, pronghorn antelope, elk, desert bighorn sheep, and mountain lion can be hunted in the Battle Mountain area. Game birds such as sage grouse, chukar, hungarian partridge, morning dove, blue grouse, and water fowl are also available. Fishing is available for brook trout, German brown trout, rainbow trout, and Lahontan cutthroat.

Camping and Picnicking
There are several campground sites with picnic facilities near Battle Mountain. According to the BLM, you may camp anywhere on public lands as long as you are at least 100 yards away from any isolated water source (stock tanks, reservoirs, springs) so wildlife, wild horses/burros, and domestic livestock are not denied easy access to water. You may camp for a 14 day period at any location on public lands, then you must move at least 25 miles to establish a new camp for another 14 day period.

Hickison Petroglyph Recreation Area
Hickison offers great views and an opportunity learn about Native Americans hunting, drawing on rock, and living in this area. There are hiking and walking trails as well as facilities for picnicking and camping.

Mill Creek Recreation Area
Mill Creek Recreation Area offers year-round camping, fishing, bird watching, and picnicking opportunities.

Copper Basin Mountain Bike Trail
The Copper Basin Mountain Bike Trail is located approximately 2 miles from Battle Mountain and offers a variety of challenging trails.

Off-Road Driving
Much of the area surrounding Battle Mountain is considered "open" to off-road vehicle use.

Golf
Lander County Golf Course is a par 72 course with 6286 yards (based on 18 holes). The course is located at 205 Fairway Dr. Battle Mountain, NV.
